Off brand memory?? opinions?

I am looking at the cheaper stuff at newegg

PMI
Kreton
V-Data
Transcend
Buffalo
SimpleTech
Apacer with infineon chips

etc etc

is any of it any good?? or is any of it really sucky??

any feedback??

Not going to be used for overclocking...maybe for gaming but not oclocking.

I've always been a big fan of Samsung memory and it is in the lower cost category. On the list you made, Simple Tech and Apacer have been around a long time.

well frankly this kingston deal kills neweggs best deals...

http://shop.kingston.com/0304kvr/def...?sls=shop_spcl (the top one on the page..the pc2700)

I feel safer with Kingston...at least it is a known quality to me...and about $20 cheaper than neweggs cheapest 512m stuff

SimpleTech has always been good to me, but that's in case I don't get my Crucial.

Actually stuff like buffalo isn't that bad at all, you just have to know what kind of chips they use. Like Buffalo uses samsung/infiniteon/micron or Bh-5 Ch-5. Read the reviews and see which ones are good for you. IMO if you're not overclocking there is really no point in buying the expensive stuff

I don't like my stick of kingsotn pc2700. I can't get it to run stable at 166mhz. I can't get it to run stable above 145mhz. I just might not have been lucky and got the bad one of the bunch, but my next memory purchase is going to be 1gig dual channel pc-3200 geil or OCZ ram.

In my opinion, i think Mistubishi had the best memory, to bad they don't do comptuer anymore. I have a stick of pc100 sitting here that I got to do 140-150mhz without any problems.

Anyone heard of Wintec? That's the brand my local supplier carried. I have two of those in my system (256m pc133 cas3).

I know Buffalo is pretty good. I have 2x256MB PC3700 (Winbond BH-5 chips) in my system right now. I'm on an nForce 2 board with integrated graphics, and they are pretty picky with memory.

If your not o/cing, and not using a bleeding edge cpu, I think any no name memory would be OK.
