buying a new desktop

I want to purchase a desktop to do some gaming, specifically Rainbow6 three, e-bay business and cd & dvd burning.

Looking at Dell Pentium 4 2.66ghz w/ 533mhz
256mb shared DDR SDRAM at 333mhz
80 gb ultra ATA/100 7200RPM
Integrated Intel 3d Extreme
sound balster 5.1 card w/ dolby digi 5.1

or an HP AMD Anthlon XP2400+ 2.0ghz
512mb pc2700
120 gb 7200 rpm
64mb NVIDIA Geforce4 MX(TM) 440-8x w/tv out
Integrated 5.1 capable sound

or if you recommend something else for around $1200.00

Thanks so much for yur expertise and time.

for 1200 both of those are an extreme ripoff...have you checked out dell's site and configured a system for 1200....you can definatley get better than that....i would either recomend a dell or going and getting an issue of computer shopper...there are plenty of small companies in there that make nice computers but check them out at www.resellerratings.com

Yes I went to Dell and selected what I wanted did same at HP. They include a 17" flat panel display and dvd-rw/dvd-rom

Still too high?
I have compared and found all to be about the same. My concern is will either of these suit my purpose and is the Pentium better than the AMD?
Thanks

The video on both of these machines would be considered a joke in todays gaming community. Whatever you get make sure it has an AGP slot so you can add better video down the road.

well for gaming you would want abetter video card than that

intel VS amd is a personal prefrence

at dell i convugured a
2.8 800fsb
512 ram
120gb sata hdd
dvdbutner and seperate dvd rom
17" flatpanel monitor
and since dell only has 2 vid card options a fx 5200....if you really wanted you could put a 9800 pro in but that bould bring up the price more but that was $1217

i will try and find a better place to buy one from though

The only reason to get Dell or HP is price, meaning you get the cheapest you can find for under $500, else check around the sites, there're plenty of builders that would love to have your business.

For $1200, you can get a decent gaming rig with Athlon 64 3200 (best bang for the buck now IMO) with 512 MB RAM from Cyberpower, Digital Storm, iBuypower, Tantus, and Xtreme Gear.

You can get many sweet cases like X-Blade (my current fav at Cyberpower), Thermaltake XaserIII, Raidmax Scorpio 886, Chieftec Dragon to show off with cold cathode light.
