personally I would take a P4 but I don't want this to get into a big debate...everyone has there opinions and many people will tell you to get an AMD....I'm not saying they are bad or anything and just about anythig you get will be fine

it all depends on your budget and what you will do with it

I'd use AMD, but I'm a gamer without a lot of budget so...

So I mean... tell us what you plan to do and how much you wanna spend.... we can answer a lot better that way.

Go for what's cheapest. I don't know of a single Hyper-Threaded application yet, so you're paying for something you won't use on those P4's. Same with the 64 bit AMDs. Maybe sometime in the future, but by that point you'll want a new processor anyway.

Go with the Fastest 32 bit AMD with a reasonable price. JHMO!

Food Look at the entire cost of the system

Even if cost is not the deciding factor in your choice you can still look at the decision from a budgetary perspective. Decide how much you are going to spend and work your way down. The cost difference between Intel and AMD might be substantial enough to go with the AMD.

This of course presumes you do not need the particular advantages or strengths of a P4.

there was an article i read that says hyperthreading turned on when playing actually doesnt make u play the game much smoother, its the other way around(i need to fine that article link). when playing games i cant think of any other programs running in the background except for UD or FAD for u to use its full capacity. when u do like editing videos rendering running music in background plus watching dvd hypertheading really helps. just my .02 cents

If you've got the cash and want to spend it go for the P$..I mean P4(damn that shift key always gets in the way.) You won't be dissapointed with either of them but if you're primarily using it for gaming I'd recommend an AMD because you don't need all of the P4's extra features.

If i am not mistaken, to have hyperthreading enabled and make use of it, you would have to have windows 2000 pro or XP pro installed since those two windows OSs can use a dual processor setup. That would also go for any linux distro i am sure. Also, since most games dont make use of dual processors, hyperthreading would also be of no use. that is if i am correct in my thinking.

I am an AMD person myself and you get alot of bang for your buck from AMD.
