I had a helluva run in with these scammers and so did my assistant at work. We both ordered Nikon D70s and the story is borderline insane. They push you into getting aftermarket lenses and are experts at the bait and switch. Besides - after reviewing several 'legit' licensed retailers out there - it seems their prices are not really competitive at all - there is no 'unbelievable' deal.

I posted the whole thing over in the reviews. As for her order, she was sent one of their infamous Japanese models. They are a scam operation and it is a shame that the NJ authorities haven't done something about them.

TadPhoto, your link to the email doesn't work, it is a link to your hard disk.

In the meantime, here is a little website I have created as a clearinghouse for complaints about this company:

http://tadphoto.com/expresscameras.html

Feel free to submit your complaints via my links. Yes, you are lucky if you got your product, but you were straight-up lied to, like many others. Go to this link and submit a complaint with the better business bureau, the department of consumer protection and with Google, who is as of now their de-facto number one co-conspirator!!!

You are right - he will not be able to collect on the rebate and the warranty is effectively null. I spoke with a guy in Nikon Customer Service last week and he said that for cameras that are Japanese, European, or Canadian, the warranty is only valid if you are in those countries.

So basically, to get any repairs or service done he will need to ship the camera to the Nikon repair center in the country of origin for the camera.

I can't believe Express Cameras is still in business - even after all these continued complaints that I've seen. Just unbelievable.

More of the same

When will these guys finally go out of business? Well, it seems that the word it getting around. I think that their sales are going down, and they're being forced to cancel orders more often. The general public is now more aware of these kinds of scammers.
