It doesn't seem like the Express Cameras website is working. That's a good thing.

Express Camera - Buyer Beware!

After checking many merchants who advertised a discount price for a Nikon 18-200 mm DX VR Zoom lens but claimed to be sold out, I was initially thrilled when Express Camera that they had it in stock for $150.00 less than the regular retail price ($899.00). When I proceeded to place the order, the salesperson tried to convince me to purchase a "new" Sigma lens, claiming that he would give me a $300 discount off the $1199.00 price. He also claimed that they had this item in stock but it wasn't "officially" going to be delivered to retail stores until later in the month. Fortunately, I started to suspect a scam. Fortunately, refuse to order something without checking it out first. After some researching I learned that this "new" lens wasn't "brand" new after all. So, then I called back to place my original order. This time I didn't get the "bait-and-switch" talk right away, but after I told them what I wanted to order, they tried to sell me a set of "professional" glass filters... normally $399, for the price of plastic filters. That would come to about $150. Hmmmmm....that makes up for the discount price of their camera! Very interesting. Again, I started to suspect that I was being scammed. When I told the salesman that I would think about the filters and maybe order them later, he told me that he couldn't give me the same price unless I bought them at the same time as the camera. Then, I knew for sure that they were very shady, scam artists. Needless to say, they didn't get my business!!! My advice....think very carefully before you purchase something from Express Camera!

Back in early February, I ordered a Nikon Camera through expresscameras.com. Upon confirmation of the camera that I ordered, I received an email to call express cameras to complete the transaction. When I called, they began their sales pitch telling me that what I ordered "didn't includes" and began the process of having me agree to order the add ons. At a certain point in our conversation, I asked the sales rep what my order total was. He stated it was over $2,500!! My original agreed amount that I received confirmation was $866.31. At this point, I asked the sales person to either return my invoice amount to $866.31 or cancel the order. I was mysteriously cut off and before I could call them back, my credit card customer service fraud line called to report an unusual charge on my card for $3,497.98. By the time I called express cameras to cancel, the order "had been processed". Upon receipt of the equipment, I immediately contacted express cameras about returning the package. David Goldstein was extremely rude and at one point even stated he would not give me the RMA number that is required in order to return an item. He stated that he would charge me a 30% restocking fee, which I told him was false, as the website states that all returns that are unopened will be refunded for the full amount. Finally, I received the RMA from David and returned the package. "Jack" from Express cameras signed for it on 2/20/06. For three weeks, express cameras refused to refund the $3,497.98 amount off of my credit card, claiming that they did not receive the full amount of equipment. On March 13, David claimed that he would contact UPS to file a dispute. At this time, he stated to UPS that the package was "damaged". In summary, express cameras is an extremely difficult company to deal with and should be reported often.

Sent "cracked" EF 70-300 Lens USM Autofocus Tele

I too ordered a lens from this company. First I had expected it to arrive within a few days but it too three weeks. When it arrived, it arrived cracked. The crack was large enough to be noticed when I took several shots on my 20D. I tried to contact them and they too gave me the run-around and finally told me that I could "just sue them". The problems were just beginning. When I get my charge card the price was not the original $480 but was charged on my credit card as $630.00. This is where it gets good. Since I happen to know someone very high-up with my credit card issuing bank, I was able to take that route. My friend at the bank called down to the credit card department and made them adjust the charge. They removed the charge and also the other charge for a second item I had ordered the very next day. The second item had arrived as expected and had no issues so basically I got that item for free. That is a savings of $180+ dollars!!! Not bad for a broken item. Here is the OTHER great thing. Canon has a great repair group that found that this was a side scratch and they were able to repair the item for a fee. That fee was LESS than the $180 I had aleady made. So. In the long run I got the two items for the price of the lesser item. $700+ for $180 (less actually).

crooks!

I have also been scammed by these crooks! I fell for the swich and bait tactics too. When I wanted to return them, I was hung up on and screamed at. I finally got somewhere when I mentioned doing a credit card dispute. I was charged over $200 for shippimg, when I was told it was $40. They credited everything back but shipping. I am disputing that thru my cc comp. now!
FIGHT BACK!

These guys are HILARIOUS! Forst off there's "Scott." If his name's Scott, I'm the Queen of England....

I gotta say if I had to bet, I'd bet these guys are some kind of terrorist front organization scamming people to use themoney for Al Qaeda cells, or Hezbollah or some organization like that.

They're obviously not legitimate businessmen.

People talk about contact the NJ Attorney General, or the BBB, etc., if it were me I'd say call Homeland Security.

Stressfull Situation

I very much regret that I did not read the postings on this site about Expresscameras.com before placing an order with them. I ordered the body only of a NIKON D70s and shortly afterwards received a call from one of their salespeople telling me that the rechargeable battery supplied with the camera would "only last twenty minutes", and I should buy a "long life" battery. They also pursuaded me to buy a quick charger for this. Not only did these two additional items cost me $200, but the battery that they sent was the same one that should have been provided with the initial order! When I complained to them I received nothing but rudeness, that I had upgraded my order to a "set", and that I should return the lot if I was dissatisfied I could not do this because of shipping and re-stocking fees, plus the fact that I had already filled out the "warranty". Once this has been done you cannot return anything. Incidentally, no address was included as to where to send the warranty and it may be bogus. On top of this I find that the L-ion EN-EL3a battery that they sent has been subject to a recall by NIKON because of potential hazards. This does not apply to units made in Japan - the one I get came from China. I have complained to BBB New Jersey, the New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs, NIKON USA and the New York Attorney's Office. These people should most definately be shut down.
