Should be able to if you watch out for deals. Like getting OEM and reusing a cdrom and hD here and there. I did it for 200 bucks last year.

$200?...Very nice.

I have an old Compaq Presario, Maybe I could put a whole new MB/HD/CPU/etc in it. Does anyone know if Compaq RAM is proprietary? ( its DIMM).

i dont think the ram is proprietery at least it wasn't in my 5006 but newer models might be i'm not sure...you might wory about the case hookups though and will probobally need a new psu anyways since those are only like 200 watts

and that meomry is brobally sdr where newer mobos use ddr...so it would not be compatible....look for rebats though....you can usually find a 256 stick of 2700 for $10-$20

I would jump on the barton 2500 with the above deal to get the fsb up to 333 while still staying under $400

Truckie

PS: I have used that epox board for a few recent customer builds and they love the onboard gf4! Its a great deal for an all-in-one board for sure.

yeah besides going to the 2500 you might think about cutting down to a $50 or so motherboard and getting a low end video card...that might stress the budget a bit I'm not sure
