MagicJack
I just have to pass this along. http://www.MagicJack.com
Long distance VOIP for $20 a year and you can use your phone with it or use a headset. It has call waiting, caller id, call forwarding, voice mail, voice mail sent to your email, 911 and everything.
I have been using it and it works great.
When I bought mine, they had a 5 year offer for $100 at checkout time. At the time they said "free International calls" on the 5 year offer. They don't have free International calls and you have to buy credits for that. I gave them a lot of grief over this and I do not know if they changed it so it wasn't misleading. Their International rates are about like Vonage, 1010987 or AT&T International plan.
Other than that, it works great and I have had no problems.
Skype is still the best deal to place International calls.
The cheap International prepaid cards you find online are a ripoff and have very bad connection quality. Skype is as good a quality as AT&T in my experience.

I would concur, Magic Jack lives up to its claims. I took it with me to Korea and I could call the US just like I was at home. Voice quality was excellent and no one I called could tell I was halfway around the world.

Cornstalk, good thread..I looked at this service about two years ago and the talk in the forum, indicted a lot of problems with this product..I do wish this company well, however...
I do think that caution should be the order of the day, especially on long extend contracts..That advice comes from former customers of Sun Rocket..

So far it works fine to get rid of a $30 - $60 a month bill.
Oh and this email is not on their site, but it is valid email address. It may be an employee that answers you and not Dan Borislow, but they say it is not Dan if they do. Dan@magicjack.com
I am taking my spare one overseas with me next month and will try in in the Philippines.

There is also a lot of old talk about it not working right on XP SP-3 or Vista SP-1, but I run it on both and it works ok so far. I think they have recently updated their code to work with it because they used to warn about the Service Packs on their panel and now it doesn't warn about it anymore. Also even though it warned about the service packs a few months ago, it still worked fine for me.

I am glad you are please,
because many of thousand of users are not..
If you demand a high level of service then this company will fail you..
This company has hundreds of complains against it...It will charge the user even before the thirty day trial is over...
The owner and inventor, Mr Dan Borislow, stated in a July interview that he had over 660,000 users and one month later, he said it was one million...
You will have to operate your computer 24/7 in order for "Black Magic Jack" to work, which will cost you at least an additional $20.oo per month in electric cost. Please examine the record before ordering this device for it may not be for you.. Magic Jack Complaints - Fraud and scam Contact 5 Investigation: Magic Jack West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Treasure Coast local news, weather, live radar, investigative from Newschannel 5 | WPTV.com Complaints bring Magic Jack an 'F' from Better Business Bureau -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com My3cents.com - Magic Jack Complaint - The Magic Jack's VoIP Costs Me $54.97 Extra In Electricity And My PC Wasn't Even Running 24/7!, Magic Jack VoIP Telephone Service
I all most forgot this damming information.. This is totally unacceptable to me and perhaps you too.
