(Kirk) I need more, push the reactor to 120%.
(Scottie) They will burn up!

I knew I wouldn't hear the end of it if I didn't, so I went ahead and added a "few" more to my herd. Not permanent, but should help.
Fshanda, worry. | |

Im allways worrying and watching your stats Evil One. Dosent help that I have 2 dualies in RMA lala land either.
Im suprised to see us ahead of you guys in the dailies. You all have been kicking a** in Ecc2 so far. Maybe you have a few covert operatives saving up for a little dump you havent found out about yet. Were trying hard to pass TNO and with the lead you all have on us it will take some time before we can even think about passing you guys.

alrighty shepards, prepare to tell me what i am worth to you, i am currently cranking for UD, but my results take so long to produce it drives me nuts. like 15 hours to get 1 result returned to the servers...
ive got an athlon 2000+
256 DDR
80GB HDD
i want to know if i am more of a hurt to your average CPU power, or if i am worth something to you.
i checked out the project, and it looks worth while to me.
*also, ive got a potential herd possibility of my own, it would involve many 1GHz-1.6GHz P4's, and some occasional 233's that run 98 or 95 [when i say many, i mean about 15 1ghz, and 15 1.6'ers, and 12 233's] probable power for you guys
i just gotta know if there is any noticable system impact when running ecc2 or if its like UD and it uses free package space.
thanks

It seems that most people (myself included) do not notice any impact on other operations when running ECC2. A few have reported problems with certain other programs, but not many.
We can use all the machines we can get - even one XP2000 will crunch some pretty good numbers.
Give it a shot on one machine and see what you think Hopefully it will work well for you, and you can expand the herd. Remember that the clients for this project are still being developed - in particular, we are still waiting for a well integrated GUI to be developed. But don't let that stop you from trying it. The software runs well now, and will only get better in the future.

Guys,
does this project need continouos net connection?? If not, I can add some nice cows.
For starters at home, my XP1700 @ 1.83Ghz, my dual P3 1Ghz and a Tbird 1.4Ghz.
At work I can prolly add a few too, but not for 24/7

DPA - Your herd would be much welcomed. A new core has just been written that increases performance on a P4 by about 25% ! ECC2 uses CPU and that's about it. No HDD space at all, KB's really.
Ultima - No, you do not need continuous NET connection. I have a "few" that will NEVER even see the NET. They don't do to bad. Just change the server they send points to, to 127.0.0.1. You'll see an error while running the core, but it's just saying it can't send/find 127.0.0.1. No big deal.
Put ECC2 on every machine you have available.

Sounds like you have got the questions answered so I'll just emphasize one point... every single computer helps!
At least test the client on one machine and see how it does in your environment. It does very well in mine. no problems at all.
