Newegg is dropping AMD cpu prices right now

not sure what will pop-up, but while I was looking the Black 5000+ dropped from $98 to $90, the 4200+ oem 65W drobbed a few bucks...

Gonna watch and see what they're AMD cpu deal of the day winds up being.

Well, on the cheap is the
X2 3800+ 65W OEM for $41 shipped
X2 4400+ 65W OEM for $60
X2 5400+ 65W OEM for $95

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e=Athlon+64+X2

I wonder which would give me the best end-performance results after overclocking - the 5000+ black, or the 5400+.

I'd say the black edition. With the unlocked multi, that can make all the difference in OCing.
That's what I'd go for at least..

Dangit...I don't have a spare OS license...I'm glad I remembered that before I ordered. $200 I could have sqeezed in, but not $350 ish.

The unlocked multiplier sounds like fun, but the higher native clock speed and the reports in reviewers look like the 5400+ may inch ahead...guess it doesn't matter anyway! ffft.

Thats for OEM right? Without box? I wonder if the $5 difference is worth the box.

Usually if the difference is minor I'll go with the retail for the low price, even though cheap quality, heatsink & fan. The extended warranty is nice, but other than DOA chips, the only time I've seen a CPU die in recent years was due to circumstances that voided the warranty.
