So I'm comparing these domahickies. And I asks myself: which will truly turn out to be the better purchase.

Hitachi 50" 1080i Plasma for $996? Despite being larger and cheaper, I just don't know about that one...

Well, I got the Hitachi at Best Buy today. I'm very surprised they were still available...but there's a reason why. When I called one of the stores they said that the SKU had been deleted and that no stores showed them in stock. Since there was another Best Buy closer to me I decided to peruse the floor just to be sure. Sho' nuff there weren't any $996 plasmas, but then I saw the only Hitachi in the store, and it was a 50", though I didn't recall the model. So I asked for a price check. Sho'nuff, it's the one I'm looking for. While there weren't any "available" their system showed 4 in a warehouse across the river and I was able to snag one for home delivery for the Sister. Woohoo! I usually don't go for the extended warranties but they offered a 4-year for only $199 more, so I bit on that. Wish I had an extra $1300 in me bank for myself one!

And yes, that is NOT a 1080i due to a shortness in resolution...but I was looking for a 720p anyway.
