Helio Ocean $195 shipped w/2 Year Contract
Pay with your Visa through their phone line at 1-888-88-HELIO and you can get the new Ocean for $195 shipped with a 2 year contract ($175 early term fee). Credit check required, $30 activation fee on your first bill, and a free 1GB MicroSD card 6-8 weeks after your first bill. It comes with a 30-day happiness guarantee. Be sure to check out their All-In services, you'll probably want them with this device.
They also have an awesome referral program. Give them the name and number of a Helio subscriber and the subscriber gets a month free (pending two months of good standing time). Then have someone do the same for you!

Cool phone. But $65 a month for only 500 minutes seems a bit steep. |

The extra $20 is for All-In, which includes UNLIMITED: messaging (email, IM, text, pic, AND video), helio 2 helio, web browsing, file transfers, 3G, GPS w/Google Maps, & Buddy Beacon.

Well, I guess that's a little better. If I ever get another cell, I'm going with MetroPCS, it's only $35 a month for unlimited local and long distance calls with no contracts.
Holy smokes! siliconjon responded to one of my posts! |

That's hella cheap, AR. If I didn't want something fancy I would pick a rate like that hands down.

Calling Helio they say the promo code was for private use, but it appears to be working online. Don't know if that's going to work.

I had the Helio Ocean for almost two weeks before I returned it. The phone itself is fine but the software it runs is terrible. Buggy as hell. Apps like the browser and the AIM client would lock up the phone (have to take the battery out). The browser, when it worked, used google mobilizer so pages looked like crap. Helio's (Sprint) coverage in my area was terrible too.

When I talked to a Helio rep, they said they utilized both Verizon and Sprint towers, and thus claim to have better coverage than either two. Can anyone verify this?

I'm mixed with my experience thus far. I'm also using the browser right now, and I'm done with it. Nix browsing the web on this thing, it's worse than dial up. It's not the data spead, as that's great with any other aspect. The browser is just worthless. But the call quality and signal quality is great so far, but I'll give it a better test this weekend. The GPS is good, but I don't advise using GoogleMaps' directions. Chart your own course with the map. The video player can't keep "high quality" 320 res video [in synch very well], and I can't use the bluetooth to transfer data to other devices. I can stand most of the quarks for a while, but the bluetooth needs to be truely enabled. After that they need to have the browser fixed. There's more, but these tiny keyboards are for quickies, not all-nighters.
