Milestone by points ... ???
Hi FAD crunchers,
Do you think that we should sort our milestones by points? In the past milestones were granted according to the number of molecules processed, but since the points system was invented to unbias (is that a word?) the process, perhaps we should go with it ... what do you think?
Regards,
Elad (WB)
PS - Alternatively, you may be aware of some difficulty involved in changing the method. If so, please make yourself heard (or at least read).

personally i like the use of molecules because i think that the "hits" involved in the points equation is rather unfair. Kind of like gambling for the face value on a given "card."
However, because many of our members like the points system, and it can be potentially very rewarding as far as stats positions go, i will put a vote in for points.
besides im ranked much higher in points than i am in molecules |

Hi DPA,
I'm unaware of this part of the equation. I thought points were granted via: CPU RATING x TIME (in hours). Including hits in the equation would be just another arbitary method ... in the FAQ it says this:
"What are points?
With the release of 1.21, we are currently experimenting with a means of weighting the CPU time contributed to the project based on the speed of the CPU and (for Windows 9X) the fraction of time spent running THINK. For an average CPU (1.2MHz) this will result in approximately 100 points per CPU hour. "
"ABOUT THE STATISTICS" says this:
"Points
For an average PC 100 points are awarded per CPU hour. The time taken for each job varies quite significantly with the jobs giving the most hits often taking longer. The time spent on a job also depends on the speed of the computer and other activities which use CPU time. A simple benchmark is used to estimate the speed of the CPU and the average load. While this approach is approximate, it aims to provide the best measure of a members contribution".
Have I missed something?
Regards,
Elad.

Eladijaz, you are correct, it's the average CPU rating over the time it was on the job X time (in hours)
Hits and molecules are irrelevent, that is why points are around, they give you credit for the power you put forth, and the time it spends working, Kinda like piece work, the more work you do per hour, the more you make. (as opposed to people running fast jobs, or high hit jobs which can be fixed.)

wouldn't points bring us into line with other team stats? use points for the rankings, but milestones can still be awarded for mollies, hits jobs or not biting your bosses nose off when he torments you at work. the milestones are more of an in forum congratulatio, the ranking, however, may be fairer on points. (desparately trying to avoid losing milestones, lol )

Whatever works best for the person in charge. Start out with the way BS was doing it, and if DPA has the time to make any changes then he can go from there.
