Just had this interesting idea for crunching FaD...

Have you ever used VMWare?

It's a virtual machine emulator program that can run a complete OS(linux/win/bsd/unix) on windows. And, I had this funny idea of "installing" several different OSes through VMWare, then installing FaD on all of them.

I don't know what will happen, but I figured it would be a good experiment to try. Especially, since I've never heard this option discussed.

I'll keep you posted...

David

David, why not just open multiple instances of Think?

you can manually set it in the FaD control panel, or leave it at automatic and change the environment variable (in my computer) of Number_of_processors to 2 and it will open 2 instances of Think. same effect

Yeah, but it lacks the "coolness" effect... http://lan-porters.homeip.net/techimo/smilies/bow.gif

Don't ya think... http://lan-porters.homeip.net/techim...ies/rockon.gif

Besides, no one that I know of has ever tried this. So, it will be "Going where no man(or THINK client) has ever gone before."

David

EDIT: Hmm, IMG code is borked...

I got $20 that says it'll crunch slower.

Just a thought, remind our new members about this as they come aboard.

I got caught on this one earlier. I ran with one instance per CPU for the first month or so, and realized that I could do 2 per after reading through old posts.

I never claimed to be smart.

OK, after several days of testing. I have found out that the jobs were crunching a very minute bit slower than two instances of think. I'm talking VERY minute, like VMWare was using about 0.14% of the CPU. So, although it's very possible, and wouldn't be noticeable, in the long run it would still be slower.

It was fun trying that out though!

And, yeah... tony... It might have been a wierd idea, but at least my wierd ideas work most of the time. lol
