Think uses the default settings from Internet Explorer (internet in control panel) to connect to the internet, as long as IE is configured to get to the net, so will FaD.

Do you currently support connections through a proxy server?
Under windows the software automatically uses the proxy settings stored for Internet Explorer.
Do you have a firewall that might be blocking the request?

i'm trying to run this at uni, so i'm sure there is a firewall, but i dont have anything separate running on my machine. the proxy setting stored in IE lets me browse, hence i'm not sure what's going on.

hang on, i think i know what's going on. brb

nope, i thought since i was using an automatic configuration script url for my LAN settings, FaD wasnt able to connect. inserted the proxy info manually in the advanced LAN settings, but still no go

Firewall shouldn't block FAD at all, AFAIK, provided you can get through on port 80. I can stealth my IPCOP and it will still get though as long as browsers are allowed through.

What OS, nishark? And is IE configured not to use proxy for local IP's? Maybe that's the issue.

No other software firewalls in action? XP firewall active?

Cheers
Mick

no software firewalls in action

Is there noplace in FAD to configure a proxy or are you forced to use the auto detect IE one?

Nowhere within control panel, S_J. Not sure how you do it with the new version other than using IE's settings. Will check on FAD forums.

XP firewall often comes up by default on certain connections.

Might stop FAD connecing, not sure.

Cheers
Mick

Well, you have converted me a bit Mick, all the guilt. So I got it up and running on a Linux box and a Windows box.
