[FaD] Celeron or K6-2?

I have two boxes that I have sitting here in pieces right now. One is a celery 700 and the other os a k6II-500. They both have 256 ram and a cd-rom and whatever. However, I only have one HDD right now to use.
So, my question is... Which should I set up? I know that AMD's are usually better for crunching, but the celery is 200 MHz faster. It will only be running FaD in Win NT4 or maybe XP Pro if I can find another cheap cd-key.

Depends on whether your application is limited by RAM throughput or CPU power. If it's the former, go with the K6-2, if the latter, it's Celeron time.

Thanks mondo. I'll have it set up by the end of the night and should have k6-2 set up by the end of the week.

Nah, the K6-2 first! Definitely! Can't have you crunching any faster than you need to be, can we? You might pass me sooner.

Ah, what the heck - get the Celery up and running. FaD could use the CPU power. As far as PeterM's comments go, THINK uses CPU more than RAM, but does use Level2 cache more than other RAM. So if the CPU's were close in megahertz, then the AMD's, with more L2, would be better. But with 200MHz diff, you'd see more crunching from the Celery despite the crippled L2.

Geez, I'm cutting my own throat here! Helping the enemy.

Joking.

Get 'em both crunching asap. A long as the HDD is big enough to hold the OS, go for it!

Cheers
Mick
