Like the Ubuntu site says; "always free"

Been meaning to give Ubuntu a try,- kind of hard to say no to such great open source software,- and it has gotta be a real kick in the pants to ol' Bill Gates.

I tried it before. I also tried knoppix which is also a free open souce os. Best thing about it is the fact you can boot from cd and dont have to install it on the comp. Pretty cool. It also has a bunch of programs on the cd too. Give it a try!

I have both XP and Ubuntu dual booted. Great thing about Linux is that you can find open source software to replace commercial and buisness software, you don't need to maintain the harddrive (defrag, search for obsolete keys, viruses ect) and it's just much faster and supports almost every piece of hardware.

I've had only one successful install of *buntu, tried several versions. Not saying it is junk, after all thousands of people are switching to *buntu in the face of Vistabomination, and they have no issues at all. I'm just saying *buntu is still Linux and Linux may have a hard time with certain PC hardware, like the trouble it had with my ATI chipset motherboard.

For those liking the open source concept, but not exactly sold on Linux, then you perhaps might find BSD interesting. In particular, check out PC-BSD, which is one of my favorite open source desktop-oriented operating systems.

Ive been using Ubuntu Since version 5, by far one of the best linux distro's ive ever used. I'm using 8.04 desktop edition now. I love the server version they have out as well, runs just as good as a unix server in my eyes. no doubt why is since its based off unix XD. but anyhoo yea, if you want a FREGGIN AWESOME free OS Ubuntu is your winner. I've also used Ubuntu as a troubleshooting tool to access Windows Kernals and thought to be long lost files on a HD with xp that got either whacked by norton or a nasty virus, and used my usb hard drive tool and put them on an external. Linux is just flat out amazing, and the fact Ubuntu is a Live Session Capable OS its just great! If you dont want to try Ubuntu and your trying to get on your Desktop and forgot your pass's lol, try Opix (also made by linux). Grabs every XP password within minutes. I rate Ubuntu 10 out of 10, it just gets better and better with every release. Noble.
