What just came to my mind is that The Beatles were probably the first group to "introduce" lyrical" introspection in their songs.
I remember, at 15 or 16, always being in awe (if that's the word) by the lyrics to "In My Life."
Spent many an hour listening to the song and trying to apply it to my life.
