Deception is part of war. Saddams troops had chemical suits, and masks. Our guys were putting on, taking off, putting on, taking off. You just can't take chances, and you can't assume the other guy is bluffing.
It probably bought Saddam quite a few days of extra time during the war, since we had to be particularly careful in all advances toward the enemy.
