Not to make excuses, but Saddam was considered the lesser of two evils at the time. We helped Saddam in the Iran/Iraq war, but not so much that it lead to a quick victory. Perhaps the real travesty there is that we didn’t help more, because the limited help we gave caused the war to go on longer than it would have otherwise.

I wonder who on earth would be open to have their country built by foreigners, based on how the foreigners see the world. Does that mean you J-Excel would be willing to betray your nation and allow a foreign power to build your country for you if the roles were switched?
I responded to this in the ":(" thread. In addition I’d like to say that if the tables were turned the whole world would be calling a resistance solely on the basis of religion and race hatred bigotry.

How do you know they cant build their country? Have they been given the freedom to do so themselves or is there a US controled pseudo-government with an American at it's head calling the shots and deciding that the priorities are?
They could not possible go it alone right now. It would be anarchy. Despite the efforts of the "resistance" to turn it into anarchy there is some semblance of stability under US control. My hope is that the rebuilding process goes as quickly as possible and the country is turned over to the Iraqi people under self-rule. I see the “resistance” doing more to get in the way of this rather than speeding the process along.
