Seemingly simple math problem...HELP!
Hey guys...real quick I got a problem here at work. I work for an appraisal company and a lot of what I do is drawing floor plans of houses from the appraisers hand sketch or off of plans and specs. When they are from blue prints...it's always been in the 1/4 scale. Meaning 1/4" = 1' I got a set of plans in front of me that is using a scale of 1" = 4' ???
Now...is it just me or are those two scales the same? I mean if you took the 1/4" = 1' and multiplied everything by 4...then you'd get 1" = 4' right? And vice versa...if you took 1" = 4' and divided everything by 4, you'd get 1/4" = 1'
Problem is...if I use the same scale on my trusty Engineer's Scale (the 40 scale), the measurements aren't anywhere near close! For example, the Deck is 12' wide...but when I measure it on the 40 scale it says around 7'?!?!?!
I'm fairly sure...that someone screwed up and just put the wrong scale down for these plans, it apparently isn't in the 1/4 scale. Anyways...it's drives me nutz when I can't figure something like this out...but I'm pretty sure it's not me, least not this time. lol.
