Networking 2000 and XP

I have XP Pro on my desktop. i have also have a laptop running windows 2000.

I tried to set up a home network (ethernet cables) so that the laptop can share my DSL connection (which is connected to the desktop via USB).

Ran the network setup wizard on XP and everything was fine. Told me to restart and run network setup on laptop. Laptop has no CD drive so I chose the option to make a floppy containing netsetup.exe

Double-clicked netsetup.exe on the laptop (from the floppy) but it says that it only works on 98SE, millenium or XP!!! Why not 2000?!

Anyways, I can't figure it out without the netwrok connection wizard and can't find a similar counterpart on 2000. Please help!!
