Gaming Completely Weird - Access denied?

Okay, so the weirdest thing happened to me yesterday, and while the problem is highly superficial, I still find it increadibly bothersome. To begin with, I'm doing this all on WinXP. I'm not sure any of my hardware specs will make a difference - this is purely software related.

I was downloading a bunch of image files (Background images) from eMule that were all compressed into a .ACE file, and when I finally managed to download it, I had a bit of difficulty unarchiving it. Well, anyway, I _did_ manage to unarchive it - But then I realized I couldn't see any of the images. That's when I figured it was a pointless task, and just tried to delete the files all together.

I couldn't delete the files, though, because I got an access denied error! I was baffled, so I rebooted in case a program was using them or something, but that didn't help as I still had access denied to me when I rebooted. I've tried to uncheck the read only attribute, but I can't because (obviously) access is denied!

I do have admin access on this machine, and I've tried just about everything I can think of... I've booted into safemode and tried deleting the files, and that STILL gives me an access denied error. I've tried running attrib -r *.* from the command prompt, and I still get access denied and can't change the attributes. I've done a full chkdsk (twice) and that hasn't helped, either.

I suppose that technically, it doesn't much matter. It's just that now there's 25 megs of files on my machine that I can't move, delete, or even view! Any suggestions? Assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I'm fresh out of ideas! Thanks.
