as dvnt1 & m-six pointed out, those so-called "anonymous" proxy servicer sites which are people use merely "hide" (hide really isn't even the proper word for it) your personal ip from the 'destination' website. the proxy server DOES however record this information (your IP & time) and can produce it to the authorities if legal action is pursued...so be warned - you're not quite as anonymous as you might think.

the only true way (so far) of completely hiding your IP info is hijacking a remote machine and using it for a proxy...

yes, Tweedle...using an anonymous (outside) proxy will allow you to circumvent the block.
