Hard Drive Damage…2x

Six months ago I installed a hard drive on a system. One month later while booting it reported hard drive damage. One week ago I replaced that hard drive. When doing so I did a fresh install of the O/S. I’ve not loaded any software to speak. This morning when I booted the system again said there was hard drive damage. The first hard drive was a 40 gig Western Digital purchased at Office Depot. This newest hard drive is a 60 gig Maxtor purchased at Staples. Besides that difference the first drive used the motherboard’s IDE interface, this hard drive uses a Promise PCI ATA 100 card interface. Both hard drives have been the primary boot drives.

O/S Windows 98 SE with all the updates.
IE 6.0 all updates
Abit BX 6 revision 2 motherboard
512 Megs SDRAM
60 gig Maxtor Hard Drive
Nvidia MX 200 video card
Sound Blaster PCI 128 audio card
LG DVD-ROM
LG CD/RW 52x24x52
Linksys PCI NIC 10/100
Promise ATA 100 controller card non RAID

PS I used WD testing tools and confirmed that the WD 40 gig drive indeed had hard drive damage.
