I too have been bitten by lsass.exe and the never ending boot loop, safe mode, last known good configuration,safe mode command prompt...nothing works. I think I must have something hosed in the SAM database. I have loaded XP PRO on seveal PCs and have ran it since CR1 in the beta and this is the first time that I have seen this error. Needless to say I was surprised. A search on Micro$oft's TechNet yielded nothing on the subject, and I was surprised that so many people have the same problem when I did a search from Google. I will boot from CD, use the recovery console to see if I can repair the installation. Thanks for all of you and your input and help on this problem.

Another funky quirk that I have seen with XP is the "out of box experience" and is documented as so on Micro$oft's TechNet and Knowledge base.
