Win2K PRO & PC Anywhere problem

I have version 9.0 of PC Anywhere and on a new install of W2K, after losing everything on my 98 machine, I found out that 9.0 is not compatable with W2K. So I went to Symantec site and downloaded the patch for W2K. I installed the program (ignoring the warning that it wouldn't work) and then installed the patch. While calling the machine from my father's house the start up screen came up after making the connection and had all these weird characters show up and immediately disconnected. Should I have installed the patch first and then the program? I use the program mainly for fixing my dad's machine when he has problems because it's easier than driving 400 miles.

Thanks for any help.

Bill
