Do you think this is an accurate figure?

Hi,

Firstly, I hope this is in the right place. If not Modsd can you please move it for me and accept my apologies.

I found this whilst having a bit of a look around. It seems like an awful lot per PC to me. What do you people think?

UK companies lost £90 million this year by failing to turn off their computers.

Computer experts 1E says businesses could save up to £100(Approx $150) per PC in unnecessary electricity costs each year just by switching PCs off at night.

But few firms bother with the potential savings and 63% of computers are left on at night.

The consultancy says the result is also an extra 2.8 million tons of harmful CO2 gas being pumped into the atmosphere.1E, whose clients include Tesco, BA and Microsoft, used research from the University of California and UK government studies.

Government statistics show that 50% of office energy is consumed by PCs and half that energy is wasted, says 1E.

Wasted energy is not only bad for profits, but also bad for the environment, according to the figures from California.

A PC switched on for 24 hours a day will emit up to one ton of the greenhouse gas CO2 a year, contributing significantly to global warming.

In addition to the 2.8 million tons of CO2 gas pumped into the environment in 2002, 1E said the pollution is set to rise to 3.7 million tons by 2020.

Cheers
