I studied Isshinryu in my younger days. It teaches unarmed as well as weapons. Very good style to learn.
It means "One-heart method." It was founded by Tatsuo Shimabuku in 1954.
My instructor at the time was an 8th degree black belt or 8th dan. Not sure about other styles but the way this one worked is that once you became a black belt you had to spend that many years as that belt level. So when you became a 5th degree you had to spend 5 years in that rank. So by this time my teacher ( George Iberle) should be a grand master (10th dan).
