Not really. The PP was simply too advanced for the time. And in some sense the PP lived on and had quite a fruitful life...what do you think the P2's and PIII's were? At their core they were only slightly modified and tweeked Pentium Pro's.
Usually I'd be one of the last people you'd see sticking up for Intel, but you gotta give credit where it's due. The PP was fine little chip.
