Ya got a tough one here, Stone.

As TKOP said, you will likely be "wet-sanding" the case, esp. the primer coat. I just can't see any way that you could keep the moisture and paint dust out of the system.

I think that you don't have a choice here, you will have to strip the box before you begin.
