S3 - Suspend-to-Ram mode - S3(STR)
S4 - Hibernate mode
With S3, all data, etc. is suspended to ram and kept there. With S4, all data, etc., is kept in ram and copied to hard disk and saved in a file when you power down the machine. The file has different flavors of extensions - .bin,
.dat, .sys.
With S3, you "push the power" to wake up the system. With S1, you press the ENTER key to do so.
XP1.8k has to make a choice - S1 or S3. S1 you press the ENTER key; S3 you hit the power button to get back to your system.

okay, good u clarified taht......now, with s3, when i press the power button, nothing happens......no response....just power is back to the computer.....then, when i press restart, it gives me a beep that lasts a second, and nothing happens again.....now, when i press restart, my computer has to boot ALL THE WAY FROM THE BEGINNING......no any problems?
