Samba is only for linking windows and linux, not for checking network settings. If you want to link windows and linux, Samba is the best tool for that. SATAN-for-linux can do some interesting things for checking your network security, though. I used to run it on RH 7.1, but lost it in a re-install somewhere.

What version of SATAN-for-linux did you d/l? You may have a corrupted tarball or an incompatibility. Try
