I have investigated the
BBB and their disreputable practices. I have witnessed their personnel "cold calling" businesses, which had been reported to them. The pitch is; If you join, we can "help you improve your image."
In my opinion, that is tantamount to the "protection" schemes I witnessed in
the former Soviet Union in the early 1990s.
In my investigation, I discovered that those businesses which are
BBB "members" have an active program to discredit complaints and discourage complainants. Those who pursue their complaints are ignored.
Furthermore, I have also found many people are under the impression that the
BBB is a governmental institution. One of the practices that perpetuate this belief is that many phone books list the
BBB in the "Blue Pages" dedicated for government listings.
Perhaps we need a separate forum dedicated to abuses by the
BBB.
