Silly SillyconJon. I can read just fine.

First I read of the result of the mistake you made. Then I read where you half heartedly try to explain your part in the fiasco. Then you completely turn the tables and lay the whole problem right in the lap of USPS and even disparage their customer service as "reeking of a government mandated monopoly".

Now here's the fun part.

Being unsure of the actual postage cost, if one were to "apply rational or logical critical thought", one would surmise that it would be prudent to either check their website for the current costs, or even, god forbid, enter the actual post office and make sure of the correct price in person. They even have convenient coin operated dispensing machines in most of their lobbies that have books of 50 1¢ stamps. Doing none of the above shows a certain lack of initiative or laziness.

In the case of their customer service, in most cases it's excellent. All you need to do is enter one of their fine offices during normal business hours and voilą, instant customer service. Well, you may have to wait in line a bit. But they are more than willing to help with any questions you may have and make sure you have the correct postage on your letters.
