Traders' Rules, Tips, & Tools

Rules
  • No resellers, retailers, or dealers.
  • PMs (Private Messages) and E-mail must be enabled in your profile. This DOES NOT show your e-mail address. It allows you to be contacted from the forum.
  • Post a price on each item for sale unless you specify for trade only. Do not solicit for offers on items you want to trade.
  • No "interest" checks.
  • No lowballing or thread crapping. If you feel a price is too high/low, discuss it via PM.
  • Keep all your items in one thread. Ask a moderator if you would like to edit a thread's title
  • Do not try to sell/trade something that you do not possess.
  • No bulk sales, or group buys.
  • No links to auctions.
  • No alcohol, tobacco, or firearms. Firearms include replicas, toys, paintball, or anything that can fire a projectile or looks like it can.
  • No porn or explicit material.
  • No mod chips or mod-chipped game consoles.
  • No "frozen" or locked game accounts.
  • No gift cards, gift certificates, or coupons.
  • No DirectTV access cards. It is illegal to sell them.
  • No charity, donation, or solicitations for a charity or donation.
  • No NFR software/hardware or OEM software that has been pre-installed. Software must be sold in accordance with it's EULA.
  • Thread "bump" permitted no more than once per 24 hour period.

Tips
  • Don't deal without knowing the facts. The following is for your protection and information so you will have a safer and more pleasant trading experience.
  • Check out a trader's references before you deal. Dealing with someone with whom you haven't done business before (and sometimes someone you have) can be risky - no matter what their "member status" is.
  • If one asks you to PayPal them money, always get their real address and CONFIRM it before making any deal, unless it is from one you know well!
  • ALWAYS CHECK FOR REFERENCES BEFORE YOU DO A TRADE. Make sure the other party is registered on Heatware or Beerology BEFORE conducting a deal with them - if they do not want to register on Heatware or Beerology, consider this a VERY big red flag! -Thanks, Heat!
  • It's highly suggested traders read and follow the advice here for safer and proper trading. Be responsible for yourself!

  • 1: Be honest, be honest, be honest. Enhance this with total clarity and be sure the other trader(s) have the same understanding of a deal’s particulars.
  • 2: Clearly represent your exact product or offering, be sure to include any cosmetic or functional problems. Check your thread for responses frequently or let others know how best to contact you.
    • a - If you're not going to guarantee an item, sell it AS-IS otherwise the Seller has the burden of refunding to Buyer if Buyer has complaints.
  • 3: Make sure any item you ship is well packaged and preferably use a shipping means which carries insurance and tracking. Some shipping tips:
    • a - Always use order confirmation when sending via USPS. For any item sent via Priority Mail it is only 35 cents. That way you can always see when the item has been delivered. Include a card of some sort listing the sender’s and recipient’s address information INSIDE the package.
    • b - Use anti-static packaging to contain any sensitive computer parts.
    • c - When sending breakable items, use plenty of good padding on each side.
    • d - Use block caps in addresses, avoid punctuation, and leave 2 spaces between state and zip code. Use a ZIP+4 code whenever possible. USPS
  • 4: There are NO excuses for being late or unable to fulfill a deal. Occasionally, there might be a legitimate REASON, but never an excuse.
  • 5: Always honor your word.
  • 6: Post a price for the item(s) you may be selling. This is not an auction site! Further, should someone meet your asking price or trade offer, you are obliged to make the deal and not quibble for more.
  • 7: Promptly communicate with the other party at the different stages of the deal, i.e. when the money is received, when you ship the package, and a follow-up email to see if the trade is satisfactory. IT IS A VERY GOOD IDEA to use the same email by just replying each time. Be sure to identify yourself from the start with your BBS Username, the BBS you post on, and your real name. This avoids a lot of confusion (especially true for us older traders!)
